After living and working abroad for a number of years I decided to move back to the UK and take up some further studies. I had been working within the tourist industry and knew that with the cooler climate in the UK things would be very different. I like the outdoors and stumbled across a conservation course and ran it parallel with some Counselling studies. Bingo! I found my niche. I took up gardening for a living and studied Counselling at my leisure. I continued to study counselling at various colleges across London before moving to the South coast where I eventually gained my Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Both of my occupations are mentally and physically rewarding.
I am now settled in Hove, West Sussex where I have set up my private Counselling practice.
Being located on the coast is a perfect opportunity for me to use my beloved outdoors in a therapeutic way. For those who like walking, I can offer Walk & Talk therapy. These sessions take place walking side by side along the beach at your own pace and can be combined with regular sessions. Walk and Talk therapy can help clients to move forward physically and emotionally and allow for reflective thinking.
Pets (on a leash) are welcome to come along and walk with us.
I am very passionate about helping people to gain their confidence and find their way in society and on the back of this, I mentored and worked alongside ex-offenders to help and support them on their journey back into life on the outside of prison.
My therapy is completely client led. I regularly attend workshops and seminars to keep in line with any new, varying, and upcoming methods & orientations. I have a particular focus on Relationship and Couples Counselling.
As social media has become a very prominent part of our lives now I have a facebook page called ‘ Meet with Jan’ and a group called ‘Loneliness & Social isolation’ (L&Si). Both can be found by typing in the search bar on facebook. My aim for the group is for likeminded people to talk together about their feelings plus I plan to run some small group workshops from my home where we can get together and talk.
I am a qualified Pilates instructor and believe in body alignment & correct breathing. This can be combined with mindfulness which is a tremendous help for stress-related conditions as well as anxiety and depression
